Iran offers to host WAVE conference

TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – After Iran president's WAVE was adopted by UN, Iran has offered to host an international conference on the resolution, World Against Violence and Extremism, in Tehran; said Iranian Ambassador to the UN Mohammad Khazaei on Friday.

Rouhani’s proposal included the holding of immediate negotiations on the conclusion of a comprehensive international convention on banning the production, proliferation and use of nuclear weapons.

The holding of a high-level conference in 2018 on nuclear disarmament; and designating September 26 as the international day for the total elimination of nuclear weapons.

The Iranian diplomat emphasized that violent extremism would have destructive ramifications for the international law and order and would harm nations’ historical, national and cultural identity.

The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to approve President Rouhani’s WAVE proposal, which call on all nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism. Rouhani made the proposal in an address to the UN Disarmament Conference in New York on September 25.

Under the resolution, the General Assembly would urge all member states to unite against violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, as well as sectarian violence.
